On Tuesday 11th February, it was Safer Internet Day – a day marked all over the world to celebrate how amazing the internet is, whilst learning how to ensure we are safe when using it.
We started off the week with an assembly presented by our Digital Leaders. They did a fantastic job, and many children have commented on how much they enjoyed it. We also had a lunch time ‘Drop In’ surgery where children from across school could come in and use the computers to improve their IT skills and learn more about staying safe online.
This year’s focus was around online scams and the best ways to spot and avoid these. Online scams are a big thing in society now and it’s important that anybody who uses the internet knows how to avoid them.
Finally, children have been asked to produce some posters for our lobby area about what they had learned in Safer Internet Week so that they can share their new knowledge with parents, carers and the wider community. Please remember, if you need any advice or support in respect of Internet Safety (or need help setting up parental controls on devices) then please contact us and we will try to help.
This is what some of our children had to say about Safer Internet Day:
Reception
Summer - You shouldn't talk to strangers on the internet.
Aoife - You should tell a trusted adult if something makes you worried.
1MC
Leo R- If you are playing a game and a new, exciting one comes on, ask your grown up if it’s okay to play first.
1DJ
Max - In our Internet Safety lesson I learnt that you shouldn't talk to strangers online.
2TD
Archie- I enjoyed making a poster letting people know how to avoid scams. We learnt to block people we don’t know or shut down your device.
2BH
Manahal- I enjoyed safer internet day because I learnt how to keep safe on the internet and learnt how to prevent and detect scams.
3/4JC
Orla-Mae M - I think Safer Internet Day is good because they support children's right to go on the computers and to be safe. I really liked the activities we did on Purple Mash where we designed an online profile making sure it was safe.
3/4JCar
Kayla- I have learnt about whether something is too good to be true...if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
3/4MC
Amelia- I liked making the poster and reminding myself how to stay safe online.
5/6HO
Olivia - I have had fun learning about the different ways that scamming can be dangerous and affect us. It is important to remember to always check suspicious information that appears online with an adult.
5/6AR
Dylan- I liked Safer Internet Day because we learnt about internet safety and scams which is quite important for children to know.
5/6MB
Leo- I enjoyed making posters about Safer Internet Day. We researched how scams are made and set-up and how to avoid them!
Thank you
