Summer Computing Competition – Blanford Mere Digi Awards

We are excited to announce the launch of a competition for children currently in Reception to Year 6.  Children are invited to submit entries for the Digi Awards that will take place at the end of the 2024-2025 academic year.

There are four categories and up to four nominees and a final winner will be chosen from Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 for each category (dependant on entries). Children and 2 parent/carers for each of the winners will be invited to the Digi Awards ceremony.  This will take place in our school hall on Thursday 10th July at 2pm. The nominated entries will be shown, and the winner will be announced and presented with their Digi Award and a Certificate. There will be a red carpet, a photographer, an after party and all nominees will be invited to dress for the occasion in their fanciest outfits befitting of the occasion!

The four categories are: -

Digital Art/Graphic Design

Animation or short film

Photography

Coding

Ideally, the entries will reflect some of the learning that has taken place in school this year.  For example, children could create an animation of their favourite book from the year, or they could create some digital art relating to one of their topics.  They could use graphic design to create a poster, a leaflet or a comic strip about some of their learning. They could create a game with coding with a Rainforest theme (Y3&4), an Americas theme (Y5), an explorer’s theme (Y2) or a land and sea theme (Y1) to reflect their learning. They may want to experiment with photography with plants of the different features on their devices. They may also want to use the opportunity to celebrate Blandford’s 50th birthday!

Children can work in groups up to a maximum of 4 in creating their entries.  Films, animations or coding shouldn’t be much longer than 1 minute.

Closing date for entries is Friday 27th June 2025.

Entries need to be emailed to info@blanford.dudley.sch.uk with “Digi Award” in the Subject box.

Your Child’s name, class and category should be in the email.

Children can enter into more than one category if they wish.

Winners will be notified by Thursday 3rd July and invited to the ceremony.

Below are a number of free apps (some suitable for PCs/laptops and others suitable for use on tablets or phones) that children could use to create their content. You may need to create an account.

Parents are encouraged to help children find the relevant apps and submit their entries, but the digital content created should be the children’s own work.

The nominees and winners will be chosen by Mrs Crook, Miss Davies and the digital leaders. The digital leaders are welcome to submit entries themselves, but they will then not be involved in judging that particularly category.

Please email into the office with Digi Awards in the subject box with any questions or queries or ask your child’s teachers via planners.

We look forward to receiving entries and hosting our second Blanford Mere Digi Awards!
