Article 5 Your family has the responsibility to help you learn and exercise your rights, and to ensure that your rights are protected.

Nursery Independence

It is an ongoing aim to encourage the children to be more independent in Nursery.

Please support your child at home by:

  • Encouraging your child to put on their own coat. (In Nursery we teach the children to put their coat hood on first if they have one and then find their sleeves).
  • Helping your child to use the toilet independently and washing their hands afterwards.
  • Reminding your child to pull up their sleeves before they wash their hands.
  • The children who are able to put their coat on independently by October half term will be presented with a certificate.

    School Library

We would like to invite you into Nursery to choose a book with your child from our school library.

Library visits will be every Friday. You can choose to visit the library at 11:15 or 14:50 if your child is booked into wraparound care.

Library will begin on Friday 8th November.

    Why is reading so important?

Enjoying books and reading stories from a very early age is crucial in the development of children. It helps with their ability to understand words, use their imagination and develop their speech, as well as being something they really enjoy.

Teachers and parents play a huge part in the development of reading skills in young children. The more children experience books the more they will gain the interest and passion for them. Reading offers so much more than just quiet time in a cosy corner. It helps to develop spelling, listening, writing, literacy and social skills.

Young children need to be able to experience books, they need to be able to understand and enjoy stories, books, rhymes and songs and listen and respond to them with curiosity and enjoyment.

This will promote the value and pleasure of reading and encourage an interest in reading throughout school and in later life.

    Wellingtons

As part of our ethos in Nursery we believe that children should have the opportunity to spend time outdoors whatever the weather. Every season has it’s delights and offers inspiring play opportunities for our children in Nursery.

    Uniform

A lot of new uniform has been purchased, so please be sure that it is clearly labelled either in indelible ink or with an iron or sew on tag.

Could you please also write your child’s name in their shoes, as many children have the same style, size and width fitting shoes at this age and confusion can easily arise, especially during role play situations and outdoor play.

    Wellies

Could you please provide your child with a pair of wellingtons for outdoor activities, these would be kept in Nursery. Could you please clearly mark your child’s name in each wellington

Many thanks for your continued support.
