Year 3/4 Football tournament
On Monday 24th June, 8 children from year 3/4 represented Blanford Mere in a football tournament at Summerhill Secondary School. They played against 4 other teams, winning two games, and drawing two. They then progressed into the semi-final being the school team with the most points from their games. The semi-final was a tense match for both teams and resulted in a sudden death penalty shoot-out with Blanford Mere being victorious! The children then played in the final against Belle Vue Primary School where 5 goals were scored in total! Belle Vue scored the winning goal with seconds left to play, therefore resulting in Blanford Mere being runners up. We are extremely proud of the children for trying their best and working so well as a team for the first time. They represented Blanford Mere in a such positive manner and one of the organisers commented on how respectful they all were. Well done to all the children who took part in the tournament and thank you to all the parents for their brilliant support.

Nursery Sports Day
On Monday 24th June Nursery held their Sports Day. This was organised and run by Tom Postings from PureSport. The children were amazing and participated in a variety of events. Thank you to all of the families that were able to encourage the children and to those family members who joined in with the race. A wonderful time was had by all. Each child received a medal for their great effort and achievement. Thank you to the HSA for selling the refreshments and to the families for purchasing the goods.
Year 1 Trip – Bodenham Arboretum
On Monday 24th June, Year One visited Bodenham Arboretum. The children had many opportunities to consolidate their learning about plants and trees whilst they explored around the site. They learnt the difference between native and non-native species and enjoyed using their senses to feel the different types of bark and smell the scents of the leaves. The children all had lots of fun in the Forest School and engaged in a range of activities including, den building, natural art, playing on the log swing, and a highlight of the day was making toast over the open fire!
Blanford Babies
Tuesday 25th June was our last ‘Blanford Babies’ session. We would like to say thank you to the families who have supported this group over the past year. We look forward to the group resuming in September. Look out for the dates in the new academic year!
Lost Words Weeks – 8th – 19th July
Once upon a time, words began to vanish from the language of children. They disappeared so quietly that at first almost no one noticed – until one day, they were gone.
But there is an old kind of magic for finding what is missing, and for summoning what has vanished. If the right spells are spoken, the lost words might return…
During the last two weeks of the term, we will be taking a 'Creative Curriculum' approach to teaching and learning. Across the school, from Nursery to Year 6, children will be learning through a book called 'The Lost Words' - a beautiful book of poetry about the world around them. Their learning will include a variety of subjects and topics, and will include a range of practical, physical activities as well as some written work.
Through the poems, children will be exposed to words that are slowly disappearing from the English language and encouraged to expand the vocabulary they use in their own writing as well as when speaking to others.
Please take time to take to your children about their learning, the activities and the new words they may have learnt.
Some pieces of work from each class will be shared with you via the newsletter and others will be displayed around the school when the children return in September.
Teachers are very excited about sharing the poems with the children, and have some exciting activities planned!
