Children’s mental health week 2024

February 5th – 11th, 2024

Children's Mental Health Week is a mental health awareness week that empowers, equips and gives a voice to all children and young people in the UK.

Children's Mental Health Week was launched in 2015 and each year, hundreds of schools, children, parents and carers take part. Now in its 10th year, our theme is ‘My Voice Matters’.

1 in 6 children have a diagnosable mental health issue, so it’s really important to help each other out when we can, and to find ways to take care of our minds. One very simple but powerful way to connect with others is through kindness.

Children watched a virtual assembly hosted by 52 lives, school of kindness and completed a variety of activities.

Here’s what some of our pupils had to say:

Reception

Harry - We have to keep our brains healthy too!

Chen - It's ok to be sad!

Year 1

Azariah - Mental health is keeping your brain and mind healthy.

Lillia - We've written a poem about ourselves and we've been kind to ourselves.

George - We wrote poems about what we are good at or what we like about ourselves.

Olsen - Self-belief means believing in yourself and not giving up!

Ruby - We learnt about self-esteem, and having positive thoughts and good feelings.

Year 2

Orla – If I’m worried, I can tell someone.

Joseph – I can exercise to help my brain to stay healthy.

Jessie – We have to be healthy.  If I’m worried, I can tell a grown-up.

Thomas – We’re all different and have to be kind.

3/4

Eleanor - This week we have been learning about mental well-being. I have learnt how to deal with our emotions and how to try and change our mind set. For example, we watched a video about how important it is to have self-belief and determination.

Adam - This week we have been learning about our mental health and things we can do to help us feel happy and show kindness to people.  We even learnt a song and dance about ‘The Power of Yet!’

Lilly - I've really enjoyed learning the 'Connecting Together' song and the sign language to go with it. It is good to know that there are so many people who I can talk to.

Jacob - Singing together has made me feel happy. It is good to sing for our positive well-being.

Year 5-6

Sam - We watched a video about mental health and we talked about how it is important to keep our body and our mind healthy.

Violet - We took part in an assembly which encouraged us to look after our mental health.
