World Book Day 2023

Yesterday we celebrated World Book Day here at Blanford Mere and the children had a lovely day. Both the staff and the children looked amazing in their World Book Day outfits and pyjamas, we had such a range of book characters represented. Throughout the day children took part in lots of reading related activities and school wide ‘Where’s Wally Hunt’ which was a real hit. The day ended with parents coming into school to read with their children, the school had a real buzz around reading yesterday which was amazing. Here are some of the things that the children had to say about the day:

“Dinosaur Stomp is my favourite story. We went in the hall for World Book Day” (Marcella – Nursery)

“My favourite story is Chicken Licken because there was a wolf in there” (Raajan – Nursery)

"I enjoyed the Where's Wally hunt as it was fun to search the whole school for Wally! I liked using a protractor to create some World Book Day art. It was also funny when the teachers dressed up for assembly - Miss Postings (the snail) was our favourite!" (Year 5-6B, Freya)

"I enjoyed making the bookmarks. I also enjoyed creating World Book Day posters with protractors. I liked the Wally hunt too. We also wore pyjamas and dressed as book characters." (Year 5-6B, Lucy)

The children here at Blanford love reading, don’t forget to go and spend your £1 book voucher and do lots of reading at home. Also don’t forget that we have our book swap in the school entrance so if you fancy something new to read pop in and trade a book.
