Sports Houses

To raise the profile of sport within Blanford Mere, we have introduced an exciting house system that rewards participation and success with sport.

Inter-House competitions build moral, team spirit and encourages active participation in sport and physical activity. They give all children the opportunity to participate in competitive sport with the aim of raising self-esteem, developing self-confidence and giving opportunities for leadership and teamwork beyond those already available within school.

There are four sports houses that all children and staff are in. The names of each house have been inspired by the local area: in the same way most professional teams take their names. These are:

Kingswinford Kickers

Stourbridge Stars

Dudley Gladiators

Wordsley Warriors

House points are awarded by:

  • Competing in Inter-House competitions at the end of each half term in PE lessons.
  • Competing in Inter-House competitions at lunchtime and finishing in the top three places.
  • Completing the daily mile at lunchtime run by the sports ambassadors.
  • Attending an after-school club.
  • Bringing in any certificates or trophies the children have won while taking part in sport outside of school in each term.

Sports Ambassadors

To provide extra roles of responsibility for the children in PE. A sports Ambassador scheme has been introduced which is designed to build the leadership skills of the children and be the voice for PE and sport within school.

Sports ambassadors will:

  • Promote the positive values of sport.
  • Be a role model and champion for PE and school sport.
  • Increase participation opportunities and healthy lifestyles for everyone.

The roles they will undertake are:

  • Organise games and activities at lunch time.
  • Organise the daily mile activity at lunch time.
  • Help run and organise house competitions.
  • Be responsible for keeping playground equipment stores tidy and organised at all times.
