Farewell to Mrs Barlow
It is with great regret that we announce Mrs Barlow will be retiring at the end of the summer term.
Mrs Barlow has been a valued member of our school community for over 21 years. During this time, she has made a lasting impact – most notably by establishing and leading our fantastic Breakfast Club, which has become a much-loved part of school life thanks to her dedication and the wonderful team she has built.
We will miss her dearly, but we are so grateful for everything she has done for the children, families, and staff over the years. We wish Mrs Barlow a very happy and well-deserved retirement as she begins this exciting new chapter.
Good luck, Mrs Barlow – you’ll always be part of our school family.
Big News for George T Yr 2!
We’re thrilled to share some exciting news – George has been officially scouted to play football for the Kidderminster Harriers Academy for the 2025/26 season!
This is a huge achievement and a proud moment as George takes a major step forward in his football journey. His hard work, dedication, and passion for the game have paid off – and we couldn’t be more excited to see what the future holds for him.
As part of joining the Academy, George will be taking part in an official sign-on evening at the start of the season, where he’ll be welcomed into the club in true professional style. He’ll also have a professional photo session to mark this incredible milestone.
Well done, George – we’ll be cheering you on every step of the way!
Reception Children Enjoy Living Eggs Experience
Our reception children were thrilled to take part in the Living Eggs project this half term. There was great excitement as they watched the eggs hatch and welcomed the fluffy chicks into their classroom. The children loved observing the chicks grow each day, learning how to care for them and even having the chance to handle them gently.
This hands-on experience sparked lots of curiosity and discussion, helping the children understand the life cycle of a chicken in a fun and memorable way. It was a wonderful opportunity to bring learning to life and support their understanding of the world around them.
The rest of the school also had visited the chicks!
Thank You for Supporting Wear It Green Day!
A big thank you to all the children, families, and staff who took part in Wear It Green Day on Thursday 15th May as part of Mental Health Awareness Week.
It was fantastic to see so many shades of green around the school – from t-shirts and jumpers to socks and hairbands! Your support helped us raise awareness about the importance of looking after our mental health and being kind to ourselves and others.
Together, we showed that it’s okay to talk about our feelings and that our school is a place where everyone belongs.

Year 5-6 – River Basin Project
Year 5-6 had a fantastic opportunity to enhance their learning when Mrs Cole from South Staffs Water came to deliver a workshop on rivers.
The children learnt about rivers from around the world and used a large map to locate them. They then studied the structure of a river basin, made a pop-up model, and learnt about threats to healthy rivers and how we can protect them. It was a superb morning, enjoyed by everyone - thank you to Mrs Cole and South Staffs Water for providing this workshop!
What some of our children said:
5-6AR - Thomas: "I enjoyed the workshop and learned new and exciting things about our rivers. I did not know that that company did so much for our rivers and the species that live there."
5-6HO - Ruby: "I thought it was very helpful because now I can go home and tell my mum to not pour food fat down the sink because it will block the drains. I also know that to not put things down the toilet that I shouldn't, like baby wipes, nappies, too much toilet roll... We also learnt about the river basin being like a sink collecting water - if it overfills, it floods and spreads silt which helps crops grow."
5-6MB - Noah: "We had to make a model of a river basin. I found out that our drinking water comes from the River Severn! We need to take short showers and help look after our water supply. I enjoyed it!"

LOA during term time
Whilst you may think this is beneficial, taking a holiday during term time means that children miss important school time, and it will be difficult for them to catch up on work. If requesting LOA, you must do so by requesting an LOA form from the school office at least 10 days before your intended leave.
It is at the discretion of the head teacher and governors of the school which the child attends as to whether leave during term time is authorised. Head teachers may not grant any leave of absence during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances. In this instance the head teacher will determine the length of time a child can be away from school. Please note leave is unlikely to be granted for the purposes of a family holiday.
If after considering whether there are exceptional circumstances and the school does not agree the absences, you take your child out of school, the school may record this as unauthorised absence. This could result in a fixed penalty fine being issued by the local authority and as a result you may be fined in respect of each parent and each child, payable up to £160 for each. Therefore, two parents and two children could potentially receive fines amounting to a maximum £640. If you choose not to pay the fine the local authority may take legal proceedings against you.

Penalty Notices (Anti-Social Behaviour Act 2003)
Penalty Notices will be considered when:
- A child is absent from school for the purpose of a Leave of Absence in term time and the absence has not been authorised by the school.
- A child has accumulated at least ten sessions of unauthorised absence and further absence has occurred following written warning to improve. The threshold is 10 sessions of unauthorised absence in a rolling period of 10 school weeks. A school week means any week in which there is at least one school session. This can be met with any combination of unauthorised absence (e.g. 4 sessions of holiday taken in term time plus 6 sessions of arriving late after the register closes all within 10 school weeks). These sessions can be consecutive (e.g. 10 sessions of holiday in one week) or not (e.g. 6 sessions of unauthorised absence taken in 1 week and 1 per week for the next 4 weeks). Penalty Notices will be used in accordance with Dudley Education Support Service.
