Article 29

Education must develop every child’s personality, talents and abilities to the full. It must encourage the child’s respect for human rights, as well as respect for their parents, their own and other cultures, and the environment.

Year 1 Burns Night

On Friday 23rd January, Year 1 children took part in a 'Scottish Day'. The children have been learning lots about Scotland as part of our Homelands and Highlands topic and during our English lessons based on a Katie Morag story. The children learnt about Robert Burns and how he is celebrated on Burns Nights.  We started the day with the children arriving to school to the sound of the bag pipes! A huge thank you to Mrs Raybould for coming in to do that for us.  Throughout the day, the children learnt traditional Scottish dances, listening to Burns poetry, created their very own 'clan' tartans, learnt about traditional food and even had the opportunity to try some haggis, Irn Bru and shortbread!

NSPCC Number Day

Thank you to everyone who helped make our Number Day a great success again. The children wore mathematical clothes, took part in the TTRS competition and had maths activities as part of the day. Thank you for donating to a great cause: we raised an amazing £336 for the NSPCC charity!

This is what some of our children had to say:

Louie, Rec MC, " We wore number tops to raise money."

Logan, Y1: "I liked to wear the numbers '6 7' on number day. I enjoyed searching for different numbers around the classroom, some were really tricky to find."

Harry, 5/6R: "I enjoyed number day because we wore our own clothes, and I hope we win the TT Rockstars competition."

Lyla, 5/6R: "Numbers Day was very fun. We got to wear Maths clothes. The TT Rockstars competition helped me practise me timetables."

Abel, 5/6MB: “I enjoyed playing Target 24, the TTRS competition (NSPPC Rocks) and wearing clothes with numbers on.”

Board Games Club

Children from Year 1 to Year 6 have been enjoying 'Board Games' Club after school. They played lots of different games, built marble runs, had epic chess and Rubik's Race battles and sank a few battleships.  No-one was bored at Board Games Club!

Safer Internet Day

This week, the school have been focusing and looking into how to use AI safely, as part of safer internet day 2026. We understood that, although AI is extremely useful and helpful, it is not always the best option. We spoke about how human interaction and human brains are still more empathetic, knowledgeable, and caring. Children sorted advantages and disadvantages, as well as made posters to promote safely using AI.

Eason - AI stands for Artificial Intelligence and I think it is ruining the internet.
Charlie - I have learnt that robots do not have feelings

Please encourage children to use AI safely at home, and monitor what children are using AI for.

Inter- Schools Maths Competition

The highly successful Inter-School Maths Championship took place in February at Woodside School in Dudley. Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 pupils competed against schools from across the West Midlands in an exciting event filled with mathematical challenges, puzzles and problem-solving tasks. Working collaboratively in their school teams, pupils tackled a range of activities to earn as many points as possible.

Our Year 3/4 team performed extremely well in their heat and demonstrated fantastic teamwork and determination. Although they narrowly missed out on a place in the final, they should be very proud of their achievements.

We are delighted to announce that our Year 5/6 team won their heat and have successfully secured a place in the final, which will take place in June. We wish them the very best of luck!

Year 3/4 Team: Finnley P, Manahal, Harvey, Joseph H, Lilah and Oliver
Year 5/6 Team: Thomas, Eugene, Eesha, Lucas, Luke and Abel C
