Article 2

All children have these rights, no matter who they are, where they live, what their parents do, what language they speak, what their religion is, whether they are a boy or a girl, what their culture is, whether they have a disability, whether they are rich or poor. No child should be treated unfairly on any basis.

Football Year 4/5

Last Monday, Blanford Mere Primary School produced a dominant performance to secure a resounding 7–0 victory over Hurst Hill Primary School in the Yr 4/5 Westwood Cup.

From the opening whistle, Blanford Mere were on the front foot, pressing high and moving the ball confidently. Their early pressure paid off with a quick opener, and they never looked back. By half-time, they had already built a commanding lead, combining sharp passing with clinical finishing.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with Blanford Mere continuing to control possession and create chances. Their teamwork and energy proved too much for Hurst Hill, as the goals kept coming to seal an emphatic win.

Defensively, Blanford Mere were just as impressive, keeping a solid shape and denying Hurst Hill any clear opportunities on goal.

The victory sees Blanford Mere progress to the next round, where they will face Sledmere Primary School, full of confidence after this outstanding display.

Year 3/4 Stone Age Cooking

Year 3/4 had a great time cooking a Stone Age–inspired roast vegetable dish. They learned important kitchen skills such as the claw grip and bridge hold, as well as grating, cutting, slicing, and chopping. The children also practised washing ingredients and using equipment safely while working together to prepare their meal.

Shakespeare Week

During the first week of the new term, Year 1 - 6 spent the week using the works of William Shakespeare in their English learning.

Year 1 took a voyage using The Tempest. They listened to different versions of the story and wrote character descriptions of about Caliban. They focused on using accurate letter formation, capital letters and full stops.

Esme - 1JC "We learnt that William Shakespeare is a very famous writer who died on his birthday.  We learnt the story of The Tempest. There is  a stinky, horrible monster called Caliban in the story."

Year 2 used A Midsummer Night’s Dream and wrote setting descriptions and character descriptions.  They focused on using adjectives to improve their descriptions.

Year 3/4 read Romeo and Juliet. They read different versions and watched an animation of the story.  They wrote poems after focusing on using similes to create a vivid picture for their reader.

Year 5/6 delved into the dark story of Hamlet. They enjoyed comparing an abridged version of the story with an animation. They explored the characters before writing a letter from Hamlet.

Francesca - Y5-6MB: "We learnt about Hamlet, and it was fun. It was different because it was a bit gruesome compared to our usual texts! I liked the story because Hamlet pretended to be crazy and had to keep it a secret."

William Shakespeare is an important part of English literature heritage and children will encounter him and his works in Secondary School. By exploring and celebrating his works from an early age, we hope to develop a love of writing and performing in our children.  It also helps children to realise the connections between many of his works and the popular stories and films of modern times.

“We know what we are but know not what we may be.”
— Hamlet

“All the world’s a stage.”
— As You Like It

Little Owl Farm

On Thursday 23rd April Reception visited Little Owl Farm.  They had a fantastic day learning all about life on a farm, feeding animals and even got to bottle feed newly born Lambs.  As usual the children represented Blanford Mere perfectly, the staff at the farm even complimented the children on their fantastic behaviour. Well done, Reception!

Earlier this week Reception had a very special delivery of 5 duck eggs.  On Tuesday 3 of the duckling hatched, the children have been very excited and will be doing lots of learning all about ducks.
