VIRTUAL REALITY WORKSHOP

A company called Prime VR visited us in school on Monday 26th June, to deliver a fantastic workshop to our Key Stage 2 children. The children in Years 3/4 got to put on the headsets and explore the different layers of a tropical rainforest and have close encounters with some of the inhabitants.

Meanwhile, Year 5/6 got to zoom around the world visiting landmarks in North and South America, as well as encountering other Wonders of the World.

Thank you to parents and carers for completing the consent forms and part funding the experience. The children had a fantastic time and were overwhelmingly positive about their experience. The teachers loved it too! Using virtual reality as a tool to enhance learning is definitely something we’d love to do again so we hope to have your support to hold additional workshops next year.

Here’s what some of the children had to say…

3/4JC

Leo FC: “It was amazing because we got to see a big jaguar and monkeys.”

Lily: “The VR workshop was fun and exciting. My favourite bit was when we got to see the leafcutter ants.”

Amelia: “I liked the monkeys. The VR made me feel like I was in the Amazon rainforest.”

3/4 MJ

Jenson: “I thought that it was educational in a fun way as we were able to see animals we’d never think we would see.”

Eden: “I think it was really fun to see all of the animals.”

3/4MC

Eleanor: “It was very enjoyable and it was fun to see what’s actually happening in the rainforest. It brought it to life and it felt like we were actually there.”

Darcey “I loved the VR. It was great fun. We got to see a shark up close and could see right into its mouth. It’s the best thing we’ve done!”

5/6 MB

Seth: "I found the VR really enjoyable and cool. I would do it again; I loved all of it!"

Liam H: "The VR experience was really amazing and cool. The part about the lions was my favourite because it was really realistic and they got very close to me. When I went to Las

Vegas, I saw several hotels and fountain. The biggest hotel was the Planet Hollywood. It was super fun and I would love to do it again!"

5/6AR

Lola: "I liked the VR because I got to see The Great Wall of China, Taj Mahal and gorillas in the jungle."

Henry: " The VR workshop was very fun and seeing the wonders of the world in VR was amazing. It was like we were actually there."

5/6 HO

Luke: "I think it was really good. I could properly experience the landmarks without actually being there. My favourite was Chichen Itza - I saw the things that I learnt about last year like the cenote and El Castillo."

Myla: "I think it was a great experience because you can see different things without actually going to the places. I liked Rio de Janeiro."

Jessica: "I really, really enjoyed it - it was the best experience I have had. The Northern Lights was fab, and Angel Falls with the rainbow across them!"

Himley Hall Yr 5/6

On Thursday 29th June, Year 5-6 had a fantastic visit to Himley Hall as part of a local heritage project.  We learnt about the history and geography of Himley Hall as well as enjoying several short walks. The children had the opportunity to sketch some of the geographical and historical features and the ice cream van was a big hit at lunchtime! Year 5-6 represented Blanford Mere really well whilst we were at Himley Hall and when walking there and back. Well done, Year 5-6!

Mason D: "I liked learning about the history of Himley Hall. The view from the top of Piper's Hill was brilliant and we sketched the lake and the trees. It was nice to have an ice cream!"

Archie H: "I enjoyed sketching the wildlife and looking at the view from the hill. We created some natural pieces of artwork - mine and Alby's was a veggie garden made from sticks and leaves. I had an Oreo knickerbocker glory too - it was amazing!"

Jack B: "I liked the chair tree. When I sat on it, I was scared it would slip. A tree fell and it had been cut across the path then someone cut a seat from it. The view from the top of the hill was great - I could see a lot of greenery and houses in the distance."

Isabel: "I enjoyed looking at the waterfall and drawing a picture of it.  I could see evidence of erosion and deposition in the waterfalls. I also enjoyed looking at the big lake and drawing the Hall from the other side of the lake."

Sienna L: "I liked creating natural art using objects I found on the floor and sketching the waterfall. I loved having an ice cream at lunch time.

Harry D: " I enjoyed learning about physical and geography and historical facts about Himley Hall. My favourite part was walking around the lake and sketching the beautiful scenery.

Year 1 Trip

Year 1 visited Fruits of the Forest this half term. When we were there, we worked with a partner to take a teddy on an adventure. There was lots to do, we had a jam-packed day.

Orla- I liked the swing because I went very high.

Lilah- I liked the mud kitchen because I could make things.

There was a stage, a rope swing, a car wash, a mud kitchen, a dig pit, a reading hut, a bug hunting area, painting area, bubble area, leaf printing area and a fairy garden. The leader Ruth showed us the area and explained the rules.

Logan - I enjoyed the smores because they were yummy.

Charlie - I liked everything!!! (everyone agreed with Charlie about this!)

We spent time exploring all the areas independently, selecting our own activities and sing our imagination. Ruth shared a story from her imagination whilst we drank delicious hot chocolate and crispy popcorn. After some more exploring we had our yummy lunches and had a refreshing break on the huge, green field.

Chloe- I liked the mud kitchen because it was messy.

Zara & Isla - We liked the painting area because we made a rainbow together.

We then played a team game where we had to direct our partner to a tree. We used our positional language and we built on our communication skills. We all completed this successfully! After that, we learnt about fire safety and individually toasted marshmallows and created our own smores.

Scarlet - I liked the fairy garden because it was quiet and full of fairies.

Kaidan- I liked the swing because it was wooden.

Joe P- I liked the stage because I liked dancing and singing True Colours.

We all agree it was the best day ever and we had so much fun. It was great for our teamwork and our friendships.
