Diwali Day

Thank you for your support with Diwali Day last month. The whole school had an amazing time, celebrating and learning about the festival. We had a wonderful start with a dohl drummer greeting us in the morning! It definitely set the tone for the day. The children had a fun filled day engaging in a variety of cross curricular activities. KS1 children had a lesson learning to play the drums and learnt how to use the ‘dagga’ and ‘tilli’ sticks. KS2 children had the opportunity to cook and they made some delicious chapattis and tasty raita. All children had the opportunity to do some food tasting and all children learnt a Diwali dance. The children had a fantastic day, see their thoughts below.

Deedee "I liked Diwali day because we had lots of different activities to do. I liked how we got to make our own raita dip and taste different foods.  I also enjoyed making a comic strip about Rama & Sita"

Thomas: "I liked that I finally found a new food that I enjoyed.  I also really liked the sound of the Indian music and I loved the dance moves."

Dylan R: "I think Diwali was fun because we got to try and make new foods. We learnt about Rama and Sita and Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji and why Diwali is celebrated by Sikhs, Hindus, Jains and some Buddhists."

Autumn: "I really enjoyed when we made the chapatis and I REALLY enjoyed tasting them afterwards. My favourite part was the Diwali fact file that we made at the end of the day."

Aurora: "We did Diwali dancing, made chapatis, tasted food and did some artwork. I enjoyed making the chapatis because not only did we learn about how other cultures cook their food, we got to taste it too! My favourite part was the dancing because it is important to learn about how other cultures do things differently to us. When we did the artwork, it made me feel peaceful and I enjoyed using many different colours."

Many thanks
